The Department of Agriculture (DA) has placed livestock checkpoints at key locations across Metro Manila and Southern Luzon to curb the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF), which has been initially affecting areas in Batangas.
According to DA Assistant Secretary and spokesperson Arnel de Mesa, the livestock checkpoints will be operating 24/7 and it aims to block the possible entry of ASF cases in the National Capital Region (NCR), Central, and Northern Luzon.
This measure was implemented following the declaration of a state of calamity in the province of Batangas.
The checkpoints located in Metro Manila are as follows:
- Commonwealth Avenue
- Mindanao Avenue
- Tandang Sora
- EDSA-Balintawak, Quezon CIty
- Marulas and Malanday, Valenzuela
Furthermore, checkpoints in nearby provinces are as follows:
- Calamba, Laguna
- Star Tollway
- Sto. Tomas, Batangas
- Alfonso, Cavite
The checkpoints will be manned by police officers, quarantine officers from the Bureau of Animal Industry, and personnel from the local government units.
