The Department of Agriculture (DA) on Monday, Oct. 10, released a new suggested retail price (SRP) for local red onions in wet markets in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Under the Administrative Circular order no. 9 signed by DA Undersecretary Domingo Panganiban dated Oct. 7, the retail price for medium red onions is now Php 170 per kilogram.
The administrative circular stated the new SRP was issued to "not aggravate the current difficulties of Filipino people affected by the pandemic and rising fuel prices".
The new SRP shall immediately take effect and be implemented for 60 days or two months from approval unless it is revoked, lifted, or revised, the statement reads.
In the price monitoring of the agriculture department as of Oct. 10, the price of red onions in Metro Manila averaged Php 200 per kilogram.
While the price cap for imported white onion averaged Php 500 per kilogram as of Friday, Oct. 7.
