Selected KADIWA centers will begin selling rice at PHP 45 per kilo starting Thursday, August 1, as part of the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) Rice-for-All Program.
DA's initiative aims to make food, especially rice, more affordable for every Filipino. Initially, rice will be priced at PHP 45 per kilo, with adjustments based on market fluctuations. However, Secretary Tiu Laurel has emphasized that their prices will generally be lower than retail prices.
KADIWA will also offer well-milled rice sourced from both importers and local traders.
According to DA, customers are limited to purchasing up to 25 kilos per day.
The rice will be available at Food Terminal Incorporated in Taguig City, the Bureau of Plant Industry in Manila, Portero in Malabon, and Caloocan City.
Meanwhile, 17 KADIWA outlets that are part of the P29 Rice Program are located in the following areas:
- Bureau of Animal Industry and National Irrigation Administration in Quezon City
- Bureau of Plant Industry in Manila
- Food Terminal Inc. in Taguig City
- PhilFIDA in Las Piñas
- Prang Covered Gym in Marikina City
- Llano, Caloocan City
- Valenzuela City
- PFCC in Malabon
- Navotas Institute in Navotas City
- Brgy. Fortune and BF City in Marikina City
- San Jose del Monte City in Bulacan
- Bacoor, Cavite
- San Pedro City Hall in Laguna
- Sta. Rosa City Hall in Laguna
- Antipolo City, Rizal
The program’s goal is to help consumers manage the impact of rising food prices due to inflation and support the DA in extending the P29 Rice Program.
“Both the P29 Rice and Rice-for-All programs are designed to make this essential staple more accessible and affordable for every Filipino, in line with President Marcos’ vision of ‘Walang magugutom sa Bagong Pilipinas,” Agriculture Assistant Secretary Arnel de Mesa stated.
