The Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) distributed food packs to 1, 612 fisherfolks in Cavite who were affected by the recent oil spill in Limay, Bataan that reached the coastal waters in certain municipalities in Cavite.

The initiative was launched as an 'initial' relief effort to extend help to the fisherfolk of Cavite Province. It covered 100% of all registered fisherfolk in Noveleta as part of the first wave of aid.

"Today's distribution is just the beginning of our comprehensive relief and recovery plan for the affected fisherfolk of Cavite," Director Isidro Velayo, Officer-in-Charge of DA-BFAR said on Saturday.

"We are committed to providing continuous support and working closely with local communities to restore their livelihoods and ensure sustainable recovery," he added.

The food pack contains basic commodities, canned goods, rice, and other non-perishable food items that will help sustain the families' everyday needs for the meantime while other support measures are being organized.

On July 25, the MT Terranova sank in Limay, Bataan which immediately caused an oil spill that eventually reached the waters of Bulacan and Cavite.
