BoC offers reward for info on two smuggled vehicles

The Bureau of Customs (BoC) offers a cash reward in exchange for information regarding the whereabouts of two luxury vehicles that arrived in the Philippines without the necessary importation documents.

Customs identified the vehicles as a blue 2023 Bugatti Chiron sports with a plate number NIM 5448, and a red unit of the same model with plate number NIM 5450.

BoC said that informants and whistleblowers will receive a cash reward equivalent to 20 percent of the actual revenue collected from the sale of the two vehicles.

BoC Intelligence Group Deputy Commissioner Juvymax Uy said on Monday, February 5, that a warrant of seizure and detention (WSD) has already been issued against the two vehilces estimated to be worth Php 163 million each.

Uy said that the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service-Manila International Container Port (CIIS-MICP) found that the two vehicles havve sighted in Muntinlupa, Pasig, Pasay, and Cavite.

"The agency received information last November 2023 about the entry of these vehicles without going through regular customs clearance. These vehicles were also being openly advertised in online markets and various social media sites," Uy said in a statement

"And subsequently, on November 28, 2023, our Management Information System Technical Group (MISTG) confirmed that the motor vehicles do not have any import documents,” he added.

BOC-CIIS director Verne Enciso said that the public can report sightings of the said vehicle at the Intelligence Group of the BoC or to BOC Cares portal.
