The Lucena City Regional Trial Court Branch 53 has filed perjury case against former mayor of Tiaong, Quezon Ramon Preza last January 11.
The case stemmed from Preza's alleged lying when he accused businessman Frankie Ong of fraud and defrauding him of nearly PHP 50 million.
However, the investigation found that the said amount is only Ong's personal debt to him according to the counter-affidavit submitted by Preza to the Makati Prosecutors Office.
Preza was temporarily released after posting PHP 25,000 bail due to the warrant of arrest issued by the court on January 19, 2024.
Should Preza be found guilty of perjury, he will face imprisonment of not less than 6 years and 1 day to 10 years and a fine not exceeding PHP 1 million.
It can be recalled that the corruption case filed against Preza at the Office of the Ombudsman has been filed due to the alleged use of his influence and power when he was mayor to favor some of his businesses.
