The Philippine anti-graft court has denied the plea of President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr., former first lady Imelda Marcos, and Irene Marcos-Araneta to recover their 22 properties and assets.
In the resolution dated May 4, the Sandiganbayan Fourth denied the motion of reconsideration filed by the Marcos family last February 17, 2023, for lack of merit.
“A Motion for Reconsideration should be denied when the same only constitutes a rehash of issues previously put forward. A careful reading of the defendants’ motion shows that they did not present any new arguments which would warrant a reconsideration of the Court’s Resolution dated 25 January 2023,” it said.
“Nevertheless, after thoughtful consideration thereof, as well as the records of this case, the Court still does not find any cogent reason to overturn its earlier pronouncement,” it added.
The Court earlier ruled that the properties and assets were illegally obtained, citing that the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) has recovered the Marcoses' ill-gotten wealth.
Among the 22 properties the Marcos family has wished to recover are Marcopper Mining, Philippine Long Distance Tel. Co (PLDT), Philippine Integrated Meat Corp. (PIMECO), Philippine Telecoms Investment Corp. (PITC), Phil Overseas Telecom Corp. (POTC), and Security Bank & Trust Co.
They also sought to recover the following haciendas: Hacienda Cambio, Hacienda Casmisana, Hacienda Colisap, Hacienda Consuelo, Hacienda de Fuego, Hacienda Lonoy, Hacienda Nahalin, and Hacienda Sevillana-Binubuhan.
