The Philippine Councilors League (PCL) has expressed its full backing for senatorial aspirant Luis "Manong Chavit" Singson, underscoring his credentials and innovative initiatives during their Year-End National Assembly held at the World Trade Center on Tuesday.
Singson, listed as Number 58 on the Senate ballot, showcased his extensive experience in public service and his forward-thinking programs, gaining the "stamp of approval" from PCL members.
One of the highlights of his presentation was the VBank initiative, a digital financial program aimed at providing interest-free loans to Filipinos who lack access to traditional financial services.
"Ako lang talaga ang nagbibigay ng mga pautang nang walang interes,” Manong Chavit said, explaining that VBank is designed to help Filipinos overcome financial challenges. The program also aims to provide every Filipino with a bank account and free credit card, making banking easier and more accessible, even in far-flung areas.
To demonstrate the ease and efficiency of VBank, Chavit conducted a live demonstration, transferring nominal funds to volunteers from the audience.
The senatorial candidate also shared his track record as a public servant, particularly his transformative governance in Ilocos Sur.
"Binago ko ang buhay sa Ilocos Sur dahil mula sa pagiging isa sa pinakamahirap na probinsya, naging isa na ito sa mga pinakamaunlad at pinaka-mapayapang probinsya sa bansa," he said.
Apart from financial empowerment, Singson also highlighted his advocacy for electric vehicles (EVs) as a sustainable solution to reduce pollution and promote environmentally friendly transportation.
The event was attended by PCL National Chairman Raul Corro, PCL National President Handy Lao, and DILG Assistant Secretary Jesi Howard Lanete, among others.
