Several contractors linked to controversial flood control projects were cited in contempt by the Senate today, September 1, after failing to appear at a legislative inquiry, despite being properly served subpoenas.
The hearing, part of a Motu Proprio inquiry titled “Philippines Under Water,” seeks to investigate alleged irregularities in flood control projects under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
“All persons invited and properly served subpoena but did not appear in today’s hearing are all cited in contempt, in preparation of the eventual issuance of warrant of arrest,” declared Senator Rodante Marcoleta, who chairs the inquiry.
The motion to cite the absent contractors in contempt was raised by Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa and supported by Senator Marcoleta.
The Senate is expected to proceed with issuing arrest warrants should the cited individuals continue to ignore the summons.
The inquiry is part of the Senate's efforts to address longstanding issues surrounding ineffective flood control systems and allegations of corruption within related infrastructure projects.
