The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) would temporarily prohibit conjugal visitations this Holy Week.
According to the report by RH 5 Val Gonzales, the BJMP Spokesperson, Jail Superintendent Jayrex Bustinera, said this is to show respect to the observance of the Holy Week. The latter furthered that visitations would pause this week because not all 484 jail facilities nationwide have conjugal rooms.
This week, BJMP Director Ruel Rivera said all their facilities are on heightened alert. Bustinera mentioned that this was because they expect several relatives to visit persons deprived of liberty (PDL).
According to the report, this is to ensure the personnel, visitors, and the PDLs’ safety and security.
Visitors may visit the BJMP facilities from 1 PM to 5 PM on weekdays, and from 9 AM to 5 PM on weekends.
Meanwhile, the BJMP said they are monitoring PDLs for signs of hypertension and other summer-related diseases due to the hot weather.
