House Deputy Speaker and Las Piñas City lone district Rep. Camille Villar on Tuesday urged House panel to probe the prevailing employment scams abroad which consequently victimize many Filipino workers.
In filing House Resolution No. 899, Villar cited that countless Filipinos have fallen into the trap of some local placement agencies that are "offering non-existent jobs abroad" and those syndicates who are "offering high-paying jobs" but turn out to be "dubious cryptocurrency group."
"The frequency of job scams over the years purportedly offered abroad perpetrated against helpless Filipino jobseekers who only want the best for their families only demonstrate this problem," she said.
According to Villar, some Filipino workers did not even receive the right compensation that was promised to them.
The House Deputy Speaker pointed out that the government should give equal importance to protecting its citizens from being victimized by scammers and syndicates along with its duty of providing them decent jobs.
"The Philippine government must ensure the protection of Filipinos from international syndicates and prevent these cases from happening as illegal recruitment puts the lives of our fellow Filipinos at great risk," she said.
