Pasig Representative and Chairman of House Committee on Basic Education Roman Romulo supports the Order of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to bring back the teachings of Philippine History, but stressed that politics should not be involved, July 8.
Romulo mentioned that PH history must be taught atarting at the grade level in order to further develop national conciousness among the youth of today.
“Kapag naituro po ng mabuti sa bawat learner po natin, it will serve as inspiration sa kanila. Masasabi po nila ‘kung kinaya po niya, kaya rin natin. Pilipino yan, Pilipino tayo.’ Kaya tama po ‘yon, alisin muna natin ang usaping politika, ibalik po natin ang kasaysayan," Romulo said in an interview with DZRH on Sunday.
Previously, PBBM instructed incoming Department of Education Secretary Senator Sonny Angara to bolster the teaching of PH history in schools.
According to the president, this will pave the way for fostering youth's appreciation and understaning towards the culture of the country.
This order eventually received support from the House of Representatives. On the contrary, criticisms are manifested by some, for this plan might manipulate the dark past of the country during the martial law.
