A group of commuters appealed to the management of Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) to consider the operation of their line until midnight.
According to United Filipino Consumer and Commuters President Rodolfo Javellana Jr., the country's population continues to grow and traffic congestion on EDSA is getting worse, therefore Filipinos need more vehicles.
He also said it is important to ensure the safety of the citizens' travel, especially at midnight, and that the MRT-3, as well as the Light Rail Transit (LRT) are the secured transportation services they need.
According to Javellana, it would be a big help if the operation of the rail lines could be extended until midnight or until 12 am, if the 24/7 operation really cannot be handled.
The MRT-3 earlier said that they cannot operate 24/7 because they also need to spend time on nightly maintenance and rehabilitation of the tracks and trains for the safety of the citizens.
Currently the last trip of MRT-3 is only until 10:00 pm while the first trip is at 4:00 am.
Javellana said that if the operation of the rail lines will be until midnight, they can still repair from two to four hours for the safety of the citizens.
"’Yan naman ang aming hinihingi, hindi naman ‘yung buong 24 oras para mayroon ding puwang sa pagkumpuni ng mga dapat i-double check ng mga nagbibigay serbisyo sa MRT at LRT," he added.
