The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Chairman George Erwin Garcia directed its law department to form a fact-finding committee to investigate the candidacy of the suspended Mayor Alice Guo.
"In view of public interest in the controversy surrounding Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo, you are directed to create a Fact-finding Committee to investigate her candidacy for the 2022 National and Local Elections," said Garcia in a letter sent to Director Maria Norina Tangaro-Casingal.
Garcia said that the committee should determine whether there was "material misinterpretation" in Guo's certificate of candidacy.
The committee will coordinate with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Solicitor General Menardo Guevarra, and Senator Risa Hontiveros, acting chairman of the Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations, and Gender Equality.
A technical analysis such as the fingerprints with the names of Alice Guo to determine her culpability is also welcome in the committee's decision.
"If any, and recommend to the Commission En Banc the filing of a case if evidence warrants," said the Election Chairman.
