The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) deactivated at least 4.7 million voters after they failed to vote in either in the 2022 mid-term polls, or the 2023 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

Atty. George Garcia, chairperson of COMELEC, urges deactivated voters to apply for reactivation during the voter registration period, which will end on September 30.

Garcia also warned deactivated voters from registering as a new voter.

The COMELEC chief explained on Monday, June 3, that deactivated voters could face criminal charges for double registration, and imprisonment of up to three years if they register as a new voter.

"Huwag kayong magpapa-register ng bago. Magpapa-reactivate lang kayo, reactivate, sapagkat meron pa kayong registration na buhay sa amin kaya lang na-deactivate kayo," Garcia stressed during an interview with Radyo Natin.
