The Commission on Election (Comelec) assured that all winning candidates in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) would be proclaimed today, Oct. 31.
In a press briefing, Comelec chairman George Garcia cited that 98.21 percent or 41,249 of 42,001 barangays across the country canvassed their votes.
“Gano’n na kataas na ang ating canvassing, completed canvassing na po iyan. Therefore, more or less 1.8 percent na lang ang non-canvas na results,” he added.
Garcia said of the 42,001, 38,997 barangays proclaimed their winning candidates or equivalent to 92.7 percent.
“More or less meron na lang tayong 2.3 percent na unproclaimed sa buong Pilipinas,” he said.
According to the Comelec chairman, candidates in some areas were tied in votes, hence proclamation was halted last night, Oct. 30.
But if the close point continues, Garcia said the proclamation of the winner should push through.
“We should proclaim the winning candidate at all costs today. Hindi na puwedeng patagalin pa o pagpapaliban pa [...] Dapat ngayong araw na ito, i-release lahat iyan,” he said, adding that the canvassing should also end today.
Garcia said five barangays in Lanao del Sur and two barangays Calbayog have yet to proclaim winners as the election was disrupted due to reported incidents.
“Pero ngayon, ongoing na ang pag co-conduct ng election diyan,” he assured.
