Amid its ongoing internal rift, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has declared Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) as the dominant majority party for the upcoming polls.
Nacionalist Party, on the other hand, was named the dominant minority party.
According to COMELEC, being named the dominant majority and minority parties have benefits.
"The watchers of the dominant majority party and the dominany minority party shall be given preference, if the space in the canvassing / consolidation center is insufficient," COMELEC in a statement.
In its statement, COMELEC did not identify which PDP-Laban wing is the dominant one, as the party broke up into two factions back in 2021.
One faction is now led by Senators Manny Pacquiao and Koko Pimentel, while the other is ledt by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi and President Rodrigo Duterte.
Meanwhile, COMELEC also identified the following major political parties:
- Liberal Party
- Aksyon Demokratiko
- Nationalist People's Coalition
- Lakas-CMD
- Partido para sa Demokratikong Reporma
- National Unity Party
- Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino
- Partido Federal ng Pilipinas
- Akbayan Party
- United Nationalist Alliance
