More than 300 candidates running for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) received show cause orders from the Commission on Election (Comelec) due to illegal campaigning.
Based on Comelec task force Anti-Epal’s released Friday, Oct. 20, show cause orders were sent to a total of 341 BSKE bets nationwide.
In line with this, on Saturday, Oct. 22, the poll body commenced the nationwide simultaneous Operation Baklas or Oplan Baklas in Manila.
Comelec chairman George Garcia and other officials spearheaded the removal of campaign posters that violated Comelec’s guidelines.
Meanwhile, petitions for disqualification were filed against 165 BSKE candidates over premature campaigning.
Three-hundred-five may possibly face disqualification cases upon Comelec task force Anti-Epal’s assessment.
Out of the 7,103 show cause orders sent to BSKE candidates due to early campaigning, only 3,854 had submitted their responses.
Moreover, 868 complaints were dropped due to a lack of factual basis.
