The Task Force on Safeguarding Against Fear and Exclusion in Elections (SAFE) of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) filed a petition for disqualification against Pasig City congressional bet Atty. Christian “Ian” Sia, over his lewd jokes about single mothers and his remarks about his female assistant.
RH 29 Boy Gonzales reported on Wednesday, April 16, that the Task Force SAFE, or the poll body’s anti-discrimination panel, filed the petition of disqualification against Sia for violating the Comelec Resolution on the anti-discriminatory and fair campaigning guidelines for the 2025 elections. The Task Force SAFE Director, Sonia Wee-Lozada, said that the two show cause orders against Sia had already been consolidated in the petition.
Moreover, the case was filed on a motu proprio basis and seeks to suspend Sia’s proclamation in case he is elected for the position. The resolution states that Comelec has the authority to investigate the offense, which is also punishable by the said resolution.
Earlier this month, the poll body’s Task Force SAFE asked Sia to explain his controversial statements on single mothers and his remarks over his female assistant’s physical appearance.
The Comelec later issued two show cause orders against Sia over the discriminatory “body size” statement and his remarks about single mothers during a campaign event.

The report mentioned that Sia had apologized for his joke on single mothers, adding that he did not intend to discriminate, exclude, or harass women. However, Sia asserted that he was exercising his right to free speech.
