

Police have launched a manhunt for the gunman responsible for the death of an off-duty police officer in Kabacan, North Cotabato on Tuesday night.
Staff Sgt. Abejay Dandan, a member of the Police Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit and a native of Carmen, North Cotabato, was identified as the slain victim by Capt. Razul Pandulo, deputy municipal police chief.
Dandan was transported to the hospital by responding cops, but he died three hours later. His son and housekeeper were unharmed by the incident.
According to preliminary findings, Dandan's vehicle was on its way to neighboring Kidapawan City when it was pursued by a pickup truck and a sports utility vehicle, whose armed occupants blasted them with gunfire.
Following the incident, the victim's automobile went into a ditch.
Empty M16 rifle ammunition was discovered at the crime scene.
Meanwhile, Pandulo stated that they are considering many motives for the incident but declined to provide further specifics pending an investigation.
He claimed Dandan was ambushed three years ago but managed to escape.
