The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Employees' Union expresses support for Chairman George Erwin Garcia and the integrity of electoral processes.
In a press statement dated July 16, COMELEC-EU, along with its 5,000 employees, stands firm in defense of the COMELEC Chair and the integrity of the country's electoral process amidst what they describe as 'systematic attack.'
The COMELEC-EU perceives the issue as an attack on the credibility of the institution ahead of the May 12, 2025 National, Local, and BARMM Elections.
"We agree with Chairman Garcia that this is a well-oiled demolition job that is clearly meant to erode the public's trust on the automated election system," COMELEC-EU said.
"As election frontliners, we can not stand idly by as our beloved institution and our leaders are maligned with allegations and insinuations that are so blatantly unfounded and absurd," they added.
The union also believes that this is not a mere attack on the chair and on the leadership COMELEC has, but it is an attack on the institution.
"A direct affront to the credibility of the elections that we have worked so hard to uphold and reserve," they said.
COMELEC and its Chair are embroiled in controversy following Egar Erice's petition for certiorari filed last April in SC, which challenges the award of the P18 billion contract to Miru for the automated polls.
