Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Chairman George Garcia was victimized by theft on Thursday afternoon, August 19, after his bag was stolen by a group of individuals inside a restaurant in Pasay City.
In an interview on DZRH’s Tomorrow’s News Tonight, Garcia states that he and his team had just come from a Senate Reforms Committee hearing and were about to have lunch when a group of thieves allegedly mixed in with their party inside the restaurant.
Garcia confirmed that the stolen bag contained his IDs, cellphone, bank cards, cash, and important documents, including his COMELEC ID.
“Kahit po kayo ay medyo kilala, laging nakikita, may katungkulan, hindi po pinag-uusapan sa ganyan ‘yan. Kaya kinakailangan na tayo ay mag-iingat lalo na po sa mga gamit natin. ‘Yan po ay learning lesson,” Garcia said.
The COMELEC chief said he immediately reported the incident to the barangay, noting their vital role in the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, the Pasay City Police said a follow-up operation is already underway, with 4 out of 7 identified suspects.
