Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio’s father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, and her father-in-law, Atty. Lucas Carpio Jr. will serve as her legal counsel in the impeachment case filed against her.
According to a copy of the petition, the co-in-laws will join lawyers from the Fortun, Narvasa, and Salazar law firm in seeking to block her impeachment.
On Tuesday, Vice President Duterte filed a petition for certiorari and prohibition with an urgent application for a temporary restraining order (TRO) and a writ of preliminary injunction.
The petition urges the Supreme Court to issue a TRO to prevent the Senate from proceeding with the impeachment trial and to bar any related actions.
Additionally, it requests a final injunction to nullify and overturn the fourth impeachment complaint filed against the Vice President on February 5.
The petition was filed after the House moved to impeach VP Duterte, citing the betrayal of public trust, culpable violation of the constitution, graft and corruption, and other crimes, with 215 lawmakers endorsing the complaint.
This petition is in addition to a separate but similar petition filed by a group of Mindanao lawyers on Tuesday.
