Classical singer Lara Maigue is the "surprise" singer of the Philippine national anthem in the second State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. on Monday.
This was confirmed by House Secretary General Reginald Velasco in an interview with another media outlet.
"Ang balita namin there will be a singer ng Pambansang Awit natin. Ang pangalan niya ay Lara Maigue. Tinignan namin yun sa YouTube. Very famous pala siya," Velasco said.
Based on her YouTube channel, Maigue is a Filipino classically trained soprano and songwriter who has won several awards, including the 2017 Aliw Awards for Best Classical Performer and the 2018 Aliw Awards for Best Female Crossover Performer.
Maigue was among the performers for ‘To Broadway with Love’, a 2-night sold-out concert at the Esplanade concert hall with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Gerard Salonga.
