Marikina Rep. Stella Quimbo confirmed that 12 government agencies, including the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd), will be deprived of confidential and intelligence funds (CIF).
During the House’s ongoing delibration of the 2024 funds of various government agencies, Quimbo said that apart from the intel and security agencies, they are now looking to allocate the CIF for other crucial programs that are in need of additional fund based on the submitted 2024 National Expenditure Program (NEP).
It can be recalled that the House leadership first announced the transfer of CIF from civilian agencies to offices that guard the West Philippine Sea (WPS).
The House approved the 2024 General Appropriations Bill worth P5.768 trillion on Sept. 27 and also formed a committee that will accept the proposed amendments to House Bill 8980.
The small committee includes Congressmen Elizaldy Co. and Quimbo, who sits as Chair and Vice Chair of the House Appropriations Committee, House Minority Leader Marcelino Libanan, and House Majority Leader Manuel Dalipe.
On September 25, Quimbo revealed that the OVP spent P125 million in confidential funds in 11 days, based on the liquidation submitted to Commission on Audit (CA) on January 17. However, the OVP said the report was "inaccurate".
