Government agencies asking for a confidential and intelligence fund (CIF) have yet to be assured about the amount they will receive for next year.

Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri said that they will thoroughly examine the plans submitted to them by the government agencies about the proper usage of CIF, and the team created – the Oversight Committee – will properly function to check on it.

The agencies must comply with the Memorandum Circular 2015-01, which specifies on where the CIF can be used.

For now, the Philippine Coast Guard’s (PCG) will definitely be added with a P10 million intelligence fund annually, as the agency needs to step up for facing concerns in the West Philippine Sea.

According to Zubiri, the first thing they looked at was the one from the Office of the President, and the report was seen as comprehensive as it detailed the proper usage of the CIF, including the campaign against illegal drugs and terrorism.

The total amount of CIF requested by the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for next year is P10.14 billion, of which half is reserved for OP.

Apart from Zubiri,he will be accompanied by Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva, Senators Juan Edgardo, Sonny Angara, Ronald Dela Rosa, and Senate Minority Leader Koko Pimentel.
