The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Director PBGen. Nicolas Torre III is preparing to file a cyber libel case against retired broadcaster Jay Sonza and an unnamed vlogger for spreading false information about his health.
After the news about his hospitalization spread online last week, Torre was quick to shut down the news through a Facebook post. In an ambush interview with reporters at Camp Crame on Monday, Torre mentioned that he plans on filing a cyber libel case against the individuals, as it had affected his family and colleagues.
“Pag makaluwag-luwag lang ako, yung mga nag post na ako ay naospital, na ako ay nagkasakit, I would file [a] cyber libel case against them. Ang tinatamaan kasi ang pamilya ko,” he said.
“Hindi lang sa personal, sa mga colleagues ko din. Kasi hindi na tumigil ang aking cellphone [kakatanggap ng] “get well,” “ano nangyari sayo?” “anong sakit mo?” he added.

The CIDG Chief deemed the situation foul, as the information circulating about his health was false. In a Facebook post, Torre called out an alliance group, stating that its henchmen were the ones who spread the information about him. Additionally, Torre claimed that these so-called henchmen have a lot of time on their hands as they are jobless.
Last week, information on Torre’s health condition made rounds online after social media posts by Sonza and another person claimed that the CIDG Chief's health was in bad condition.
The individuals also related the incident to the raid at the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) compound in Davao City in 2024, where Torre served as the Davao Region's Police Director at the time.
