A Chinese national was arrested by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) for committing fraud in obtaining his working visa.

In a press release on Sunday, authorities identified the foreigner as Li Xuanjun, 23. He was blocked at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 immigration departure area last week, January 22, before his flight to Quanzhou, China.

According to Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado, Li’s name was flagged by the automated derogatory check system, prompting his capture.

Supervisors on duty verified that Li and the derogatory hit in the bureau’s records were one and the same individual. The records indicate Li was wanted for acquiring a visa through fraud and misrepresentation.

“We will be deporting him for being an undesirable alien which stemmed from his acquisition of a visa through dishonest means,” Viado said.

“His inclusion in our blacklist effectively banned him from re-entering the Philippines,” he added.

Li was taken by BI Border Control and Intelligence Unit (BCIU) personnel to the bureau’s warden facility in Taguig City, where he will be kept for the duration of his deportation proceedings.

Li’s working visa was canceled in 2023 following an investigation which found that his visa had been petitioned by a bogus employer-company, which was confirmed by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
