The children of four overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who were among the fatalities in the ongoing Hamas-Israel war will be receiving educational assistance, according to the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

In a statement on Friday, CHED Chairman J. Prospero “Popoy” de Vera III said that the agency is coordinating with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) to reach out to the families of the four slain Filipinos.

"In response to the mandate of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for government agencies to prepare for the reintegration of repatriated Filipinos from Israel, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) is coordinating with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) to reach out to the families of the four (4) slain Filipinos so that educational assistance to their qualifying children or dependents can be provided," de Vera said.

The educational assistance will be provided through the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education (UAQTE) law and the provision of the Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES).

CHED said it is determining the actual number of dependents enrolled in college and their location across the different regions with the help of CHED Regional Offices.

"While hoping for a peaceful resolution of the conflict, CHED will actively work with the government to provide necessary assistance, particularly in higher education aspects, to our Kababayans aggravated by the escalating hostilities," de Vera remarked.
