When talking about marriage, raising kids is one of the most common dreams for couples - but not for lovers Ian Abellanosa and Chelsea Aquino.
Last month, a Facebook post about Abellanosa getting a vasectomy went viral, gaining positive reactions from the netizens for being responsible enough by not having children as an addition to the country's population.
In the said post, Aquino said that they want to live life to the fullest without any worries about orphaning a kid and both of them agreed to raise cats and dogs instead.
She added that choosing to not want kids is perfectly fine and should not need any explanation, and shared her plan of getting her tubes tied.
Aquino also used her social media platform to educate the public about the positive side of vasectomy, which led to many queries from people who also chose to not have kids.
According to Abellanosa, since the start of her relationship with Aquino, they have already talked about not having kids and preferred to be a good uncle to his nieces and nephews.
He shared that he already had a fair share of raising kids.
"I’ve been surrounded with kids growing up, nakikita ko at alam ko kung anong hirap at effort at pasensya ang kailangan para magpalaki at mag-alaga ng bata," he said.
Abellanosa also shared his insights about parenthood, saying that being a parent takes and needs a lot of things in terms of financial, emotional, and mental preparedness and capacity.
"Kung sarili ko nga nahihirapan, bat pa namin idadamay yung magiging anak nami," he said.
When asked about getting a vasectomy, Abellanosa proudly answered that he felt accomplished, indicating that it was a milestone for him and Aquino.
Giving advice to families, Abellanosa told them that if they want to undergo vasectomy, they need to go for it. However, if they really want to raise children, they should need to have family planning.
He added that vasectomy is free and one of the benefits for PhilHealth members which will cost nothing if they are already decided to not have children in the family.
Meanwhile, vasectomy is the most cost-effective and safest permanent method of meeting the needs of men and women who want to limit future births.
The no-scalpel vasectomy is a painless, fast, and extremely effective method that requires little recovery time with no side effects, giving economic and health benefits to the family.
