The state weather bureau on Thursday said that Severe tropical storm Chedeng has developed into a typhoon but it may not bring heavy rains over the country.
According to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration's (PAGASA) 5 PM bulletin, Chedeng was last tracked 935 kilometers East of Central Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 150 km/h.
It is accelerating Northwestward at a speed of 15 km/h and is forecasted to move west-northwestward to northwestward until Friday afternoon.
"From this point on, CHEDENG will be slow-moving until Saturday before accelerating on Sunday generally north-northeastward or northeastward," the state weather bureau said.
PAGASA said the typhoon will steadily intensify and may reach peak intensity this Saturday, June 10.
Chedeng has a low possibility to cause rough sea conditions, and it is expected to remain far from the country's landmass.
Typhoon Chedeng may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Monday morning, June 12.
