The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has issued a show-cause order against Philippine Christian University (PCU) - Manila to explain the series of violations it committed, CHED chairman Prospero 'Popoy' de Vera said on Monday, August 21.
In a statement, De Vera said PCU violated Republic Act 11448 or the Transnational Higher Education Act, its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR), and two CHED memorandum orders.
He particularly mentioned that the Manila-based University offered Transnational Higher Education (TNHE) programs and shortened graduate programs through extension classes via distance education and online modalities without an authorized permit.
De Vega said the PCU likewise did not seek CHED's approval on the public announcement of its TNHE programs.
In addition, he said the University failed to provide data in regard to its international partners and failed to comply with the prescribed faculty-to-student ratio for its Doctor of Philosophy in Business Management program.
"PCU is ordered to immediately cease and desist from offering and implementing any and all programs for which it does not have official CHED permit, recognition or authorization to offer or conduct, including but not limited to, transnational higher education, distance education, and fully online classes," the CHED chairman said.
As of this posting, the administration of PCU has yet to issue a statement on the matter.
