Usec. Cesar Chavez will now serve as the new chief of the Presidential Communications Office (PCO).

Chavez, who previously served as Presidential Adviser on Strategic Communications, replaces Cheloy Garafil who will now head the Manila Economic and Cultural Office.

Chavez took his oath of office on Thursday, September 4, before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at the Malacanang.

"I'll be helping the President explain his policies, some Cabinet decisions, Executive decisions in particular, foreign policy," Chavez told reporters in Malacanang.

In order to address the problem of fake news, Chavez said that he will designate fact-checkers in all state-owned media outlets.

"Timely, accurate, and validated information is what we need," Chavez said.

Chavez, a former station manager and broadcaster of the radio station DZRH, will serve as the third PCO secretary under the PBBM Administration.

He also previously served as undersecretary for railways of the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
