Local carrier Cebu Pacific Air has announced that it is looking into the viral social media post of one of its pilots that alleged Vice President Leni Robredo requested special treatment at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
In a now-deleted post, a pilot from the airline alleged that Robredo requested priority landing at NAIA a month ago, causing flight diversions.
The post has since drawn flak and has been the subject of fact-checkers online which branded it as fake.
In a statement, Cebu Pacific said it is coordinating with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines on the issue.
"Sensitive company information and operational details must not be disclosed publicly – even when factual and more so, if erroneous to prevent the spread of disinformation," said Cebu Pacific in a statement.
"Cebu Pacific is currently working with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) on this particular matter," it added.
According to the airline, the company has a "robust" Social Media Policy that outlines how its employees should behave online because they represent the brand.
The airline stressed that it respects freedom of speech and expression, and does not prevent its employees from having or expressing their own political beliefs.
"However, as a Company, we are also governed by the Data Privacy Act of 2012 and our Company’s Code of Discipline."
"CEB will address this item internally with the concerned stakeholder(s) based on our Company guidelines."
Senate President Vicente Sotto III also weighed in on the issue saying the president, vice president, and the senate president have landing and take-off priority in all local airports.
"Unfortunately, that pilot does not know that there are 3 persons in govt that are given landing and take off priority in all PH airports as CAAP knows," Sotto said in a tweet.
The camp of Robredo has yet to issue a statement on the matter.
