Cebu City is experiencing a surge in CoVid19-related cases. Some hospitals are already nearing their maximum capacity.
In fact, there have been images being posted online showing some patients waiting outside the Chong Hua Hospital in order to be accomodated. They're inside their private cars, in line, making use of the available oxygen tanks.
Cebu City councilor Dave Tumulak visited the area outside of the Chong Hua Hospital, and confirmed that at leat 31 patients have been waiting inside ambulances or their private vehicles.
Tumulak said that some patients suffer from difficulty in breathing, but he cannot confirm whether they have tested positive for the 2019 Coronavirus Disease since they have yet to receive the results of their tests.
Reports stated that some patients have been outside the hospital since Friday, July 30, and they only received a supply of oxygen on Sunday, August 1.
A portion of Don Mariano Cu Street in front of the hospital has been closed from vehicles in order to limit the area to emergency personnel, and prevent others from getting near.
Tumulak promised that the local government unit of Cebu City will help the patients to receive accomodations in other hospitals.
Based on the COVID-19 tracker of the Department of Health, the Cebu Doctors' University Hospital and the Cebu North General Hospital have reached full capacity for infected patients.
The critical utilization rate of Saint Anthony, Mother, and Child; Adventis Hospital; Saint Vincent Hospital; and Visayas have reached high-risk level, while Cebu City Medical Center and Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center have reached moderate risk level.
The remaining 15 medical facilites in Cebu City remain at low risk level
As of Sunday, August 1, Cebu City still has 2,076 active COVID-19 cases out of the 30,735 total infections that the city recorded since the start of the pandemic.
