The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has gathered CCTV footage and testimonial evidence suggesting possible collusion within the agency related to the recent escape of a high-profile Korean fugitive.

In a recent update, the bureau confirmed that criminal complaints have been filed with the Department of Justice (DOJ) against the personnel allegedly involved in the incident.

"This footage is damning evidence—hindi ito simpleng kapabayaan. The movements and interactions caught on camera strongly indicate collusion,” BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado firmly stated.

“Adding to this, we have secured additional testimonial evidence that further strengthens our case against those involved," he added.

The CCTV footage, currently under close review by investigators, reportedly shows BI officers assisting in the escape of the foreign national.

Additionally, witness statements have supported suspicions of internal involvement in the incident.

Viado emphasized that the evidence collected thus far is substantial enough to support cases against those responsible.

He previously mentioned that the personnel involved in the escape of the foreign national could face both administrative and criminal charges for negligence in the handling of a detainee.

"This is no longer just an internal disciplinary matter—this is a full-blown criminal case. The DOJ will take over, and we will ensure that those who betrayed public trust are held accountable," said Viado.

Earlier, Viado ordered the immediate termination of the personnel involved in the incident, describing it as a "direct and undeniable" violation of their duties.

In line with the ongoing probe, additional personnel believed to be implicated in the escape have been placed on preventive suspension, with an internal audit of all high-risk deportation and detention cases in progress.

The Commissioner emphasized that the agency will not cease its efforts until those accountable face the full repercussions of their actions.

“This is just the beginning. The days of corruption, illicit deals, and under-the-table transactions in the Bureau are numbered. Walang sasantuhin—everyone involved will face the consequences,” Viado reiterated.

BI is working in close coordination with law enforcement and the DOJ to fast-track legal proceedings against all those involved.

A manhunt has been initiated for a South Korean national facing fraud charges, who escaped custody during his court hearing.
