Motorists should expect hefty toll fees in Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway Project (CAVITEX) starting Monday, August 21, after the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) approved the management's petition for provisional adjusted toll fees.
In a press release, TRB said it approved the 2017 petition filed by Cavitex Infrastructure Corporation (CIC) and its joint venture partner Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) for a toll fee hike in CAVITEX R1- Paranaque Toll Plaza and R1 Extension - Kawit Toll Plaza.
"After an exhaustive review and compliance by CIC and PRA on the procedures and requirements set by the TRB, including the publication and posting of surety bond, the Notice to Start Toll Collection for the provisional adjusted toll fees was issued to CIC and PRA on August 11, 2023," it added.
With this approval, motorists who will be passing the CAVITEX R1- Paranaque Toll Plaza have to pay the following rates:
- Class 1 – ₱35 from the current ₱33
- Class 2 – ₱70 from the current ₱67
- Class 3- ₱104 from the current ₱100
Meanwhile, the following rates shall be followed by motorists passing R1 Extension - Kawit Toll Plaza:
- Class 1 – ₱73 from the current ₱64
- Class 2 – ₱146 from the current ₱129
- Class 3- ₱219 from the current ₱194
The TRB said it expects the CIC and PRA to carry out their operations and maintenance obligations, complete their ongoing expansion and improvement projects such as the C5 Link, and enhance their Electronic Toll Collection System and other future expansion projects.
The board underscored that these toll fee adjustments will benefit CAVITEX users.
Meanwhile, in a separate statement, CAVITEX management said it will reactivate the Abante Card program to allow Class 1 and Class 2 public utility vehicles (PUV) drivers and operators to "enjoy the old toll rates for a period of three months through a rebate program".
"The increase in toll rates helps in maintaining a safe and high-quality expressway for our motorists," it said.
