Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gregorio Catapang on Thursday denied rumors suggesting he will be replaced in his post.

In a report by RH Jecelle Ricafort, Catapang described the speculation as a product of “evil forces,” he stressed that the spread of “fake news“ is alarming in today’s information landscape.

He warned that such misinformation undermines both institutional integrity and public trust.

The remarks come after social media circulated reports claiming that Malacañang plans to replace Catapang with MMDA General Manager Nicolas Torre III.

The Director General emphasized the importance of our fellow citizens being critical of the news or information they come across online.

Catapang urged them to first verify the information and consult reliable news sources before accepting it as truth.

The BuCor chief also reaffirmed the agency's commitment to combating fake news and misinformation, not only to protect the agency’s reputation but also to safeguard the credibility of public institutions.
