Filipina fencer Samantha Catantan will take a break in order to recuperate after tearing her ACL anew during the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France.
"This sport has given me the best the world could offer, bringing me a unique joy whenever I am on the strip fencing for Philippines. However, sometimes things may not go as planned," Catantan said on Monday, August 5, in an Instagram post.
"Unfortunately, I re-tore my ACL and need to take some time off the strip again. Despite this, I feel beyond blessed and grateful for all His grace," she added.
The 2024 Olympics journey of Catantan came to an end after she lost to Arianna Errigo of Italy last July 28 in the women's fencing individual event.
In 2023, Catantan injured her ACL in the middle of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
The injury forced her to withdraw from the gold medal match in the women's individual foil event, and sit out the women's team foil event in the 2023 SEA Games.
The Filipina fencer returned to action in time for the 2024 Asia Oceania Zonal Olympic Qualifiers held last April in Dubai.
