Cassandra Ong, the representative of Lucky South 99 and a key resource person in the ongoing investigation of the House of Representatives on Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs), was placed in the Correctional Institute for Women in Mandaluyong.
House Secretary General Reginald Velasco said Ong had been transferred to the Correctional Institute on Wednesday. The decision to move her was prompted by Ong’s lawyer quoting her that she would prefer being behind bars than be in another House hearing.
Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Pio Catapang said Ong would be kept separate from other inmates for her security.
“As a commitment order ng Congress, we are just following the orders of Congress. But we cannot allow her to mingle with those convicted people already, it might endanger her security and safety,” Catapang stated.
He said Ong is permitted to use her phone as she has yet to be found guilty of a crime.
Ong was cited twice, the second time for dishonesty when probed about her education.
