Carmona will no longer be recognized as a Municipality after the Commission of Election (Comelec) proclaimed its official conversion into a component city of Cavite province last Saturday, July 8.
The proclamation comes after a successful plebiscite wherein 96.76 percent of the participating voters said “yes” to the ratify the Republic Act No. 11938 that mandates to convert the municipality to a city.
According to Comelec’s data, about 30,363 residents voted “yes” while 1,016 others opposed.
The poll body said the voter turnout in Carmona was 53.90 percent which translates to 31,632 out of 58,691 citizens who cast their plebiscite votes.
Out of 10 polling centers, Bancal Elementary School had the highest total number of residents who voted with 4,916.
Contrary, the Paligawan Elementary School had 1,075 voters, the lowest recorded.

Last February 23 this year, President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. signed the RA 11938 or An Act Converting the Municipality of Carmona in the province of Cavite into a component.
Carmona is now considered the eighth city in the province after Cavite City, Trece Martires, Tagaytay, Dasmariñas, Bacoor, Imus, and General Trias.
