Comic strip creator and writer-turned-film director Carlo J. Caparas passed away, his daughter Peach announced on Saturday, May 25.

Peach Caparas composed an ode to her late father on Facebook, as tribute to his life's work.

"Salamat Direk Carlo J. sa mga dibuho at istorya. Mga istoryang nabuo sa bawat tipa ng iyong makinilya," Peach wrote.

Peach Caparas concluded the post saying, "Dad, you will forever be loved, cherished, and honored…by all of us."

Caparas died at 80. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed.

His wake will be held on Monday, May 27, in Las Piñas, at the Golden Haven Memorial Chapels and Crematorium. His family welcomes flowers starting today, May 26.

Caparas made a name for himself creating iconic comic book characters like Panday, Bakekang, Elias Paniki, Gagambino, and Pieta, among many others.

As a filmmaker, Caparas' works include "Ang Babaing Hinugot sa Aking Tadyang," "Kamagong," "Ayaw Matulog ng Gabi," and "Hiwaga ng Panday."

He was made a National Artist of the Philippines under the categories of Visual Arts as well as Film by former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in 2009, a proclamation which was voided by the Supreme Court on July 16, 2013.
