Typhoon Carina is currently crossing Taiwan and approaching the northern boundary of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Thursday, July 25, while Signal No. 1 remains hoisted over Batanes, according to PAGASA.

Based on the weather bureau's 5 a.m. Tropical Cyclone Bulletin, Typhoon Carina was located 465 km north of Itbayat, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 150 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 185 km/h. It is moving northward at 20 km/h.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 is in effect over Batanes, where minimal to minor impacts from strong winds are possible.

Meanwhile, PAGASA stated that Carina is less likely to directly cause heavy rainfall over any part of the country. However, the Southwest Monsoon, enhanced by Carina, will bring moderate to intense rainfall over various areas in the western portion of Luzon from today through Saturday.

"PAGASA forecasts Carina to exit the PAR region this morning, traverse the Taiwan Strait, and make its final landfall over southeastern China this afternoon or evening. The typhoon is expected to weaken as it interacts further with the mountainous terrain of Taiwan and southeastern China," PAGASA added.
