The plebiscite in Caloocan officially ended with the majority of residents voting in favor of dividing Barangay 176, also known as Bagong Silang, into six smaller barangays.
The results, announced on Saturday, August 31, showed 22,854 residents voted "yes," while 2,584 voted "no." The vote followed the signing of Republic Act No. 11993 by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., which authorized the division.
Under the new law, Barangay 176 will be split into Barangays 176-A, 176-B, 176-C, 176-D, 176-E, and 176-F. Each new barangay will have its own set of local officials, including a chairperson, seven councilors, and Sangguniang Kabataan representatives.
The division aims to improve the delivery of services to over 200,000 residents who were previously governed by a single barangay administration.
