A team from the Provincial Tactical Operation Center recovered a cache of explosives in San Jose town in Dinagat Islands on Thursday.
Based on the report from Lieutenant Colonel Renel Serrano, chief of Dinagat’s Provincial Investigation and Detection Management Unit, two hand grenades and 15 rifle grenade projectiles were discovered at a nearby racetrack in Barangay Luna.
According to Serrano, the said explosives were buried at the end of the racetrack beside the river when the soil has been washed away due to recent rains and floods, exposing the explosives.
Dinagat Islands Police Provincial Office (DIPPO) Director Col. Ariel Red ordered an inspection to see the one who is responsible for the concealment of the explosives.
Red said that the explosives were deliberately hidden as the DIPPO intensified its campaigns against firearms in the province, based on the initial report.
Meanwhile, the explosives are now under the custody of the DIPPO explosives and ordinance division.
