The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) on Friday announced that it will conduct a corrective maintenance activity at its Philippine Air Traffic Management Center (ATMC) on May 3 and May 17, which is expected to affect several flights in the country's main airports as well as commercial airports.
In a statement, CAAP said with this maintenance, the Air Traffic Management System (ATMS) will be suspended from 2 am to 4 am on May 3 and 12 midnight to 6 am on May 17.
But if the activity finished early than scheduled, it said that it will lift the Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), and normal operations will immediately resume.
According to CAAP, the flights at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), Clark International Airport (CRK), and Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MIAA), and several flights at the other 42 CAAP commercially operated airports, will be affected.
"The corrective maintenance activity is necessary to repair the Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR), replace the Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), and upgrade the Air Traffic Management System (ATMS) A/B power supply," it underlined.
"We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding and cooperation in ensuring the safety and efficiency of our air traffic management system," the agency further said.
It can be recalled that on New Year's Day, January 1, CAAP's ATMS had a system glitch, affecting hundreds of thousands of passengers.
