The student who was reportedly kidnapped in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig City, has been rescued by authorities, according to Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla on Wednesday.
Remulla confirmed to DZRH News that the student was rescued at 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, PCol. Randulf Tuaño told reporters that the student was found abandoned along Macapagal Avenue in Parañaque City.
The victim has since been reunited with his father and was brought to hospital for a medical examination.
Tuaño clarified that no ransom was paid to secure the release of the student.
The rescue was led by the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group, in coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
DZRH reporter Edniel Parrosa said Camp Crame is expected to hold a press briefing to provide further updates on the case.
According to a previous report by the Philippine National Police (PNP), investigators have already identified a lead in the case of the missing Chinese national student, PCol. Randulf Tuaño announced.
However, Tuaño dismissed reports alleging that the student had a finger cut off due to a ransom dispute.
PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil revealed that recent investigations indicate some criminal incidents, including kidnappings, are linked to the ongoing crackdown on illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).
From January 2024 to February this year, the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) recorded 40 kidnapping incidents, 10 of which involved Chinese victims abducted by fellow Chinese nationals.
However, the PNP has not confirmed whether this angle is being considered in the ongoing investigation.
The Bureau of Immigration and the National Bureau of Investigation are also conducting their investigation into the reported abduction.
