Ten areas in Batangas have been affected by the volcanic smog (smog) observed from the Taal volcano, according to the state seismologist on Tuesday, March 12.
In a vog alert posted on its X (formerly Twitter) account, PHIVOLCS said the vog was first observed over Taal Caldera at 2 PM.
"These areas are being affected by VOG as reported by the Batangas PDRRMO [Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office]: Agoncillo, Laurel, Balete, Sta. Teresita, Calaca, Mabini, Mataasnakahoy, Lemery, San Nicolas & Talisay," it said.
The state seismologist advised the public to protect themselves from the vog that could cause irritation of the eyes, throat, and respiratory tract.

Based on PHIVOLCS' bulletin, a volcanic tremor was observed in Taal volcano which lasted for two minutes.
It recorded 6,837 tonnes of sulfur dioxide flux since Monday, March 11.
Taal volcano also emitted plumes that reached 1,200 meters tall before drifting in a southwest direction.
Alert level 1 status or low-level of unrest remain hoisted in Taal.
