Prison officials are investigating the enormous quantity of cash found in prison guards' lockers and are scheduled to meet with Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLAC) representatives to strengthen the government's case for plunder against disgraced former Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) director general Gerald Bantag.
BuCor Director Gregorio Catapang said he will meet with AMLAC soon to strengthen the case for plunder filed against his predecessor, Gerald Bantag, in connection with the alleged anomalous building project at the New Bilibid Prison in a television interview on Wednesday (NBP).
Up to 30 prison guards, according to Catapang, have been put on preventive suspension after an examination of their lockers revealed excessive sums of cash.
Meanwhile, he pointed out that online cash transactions are unavoidable and that PDLs are permitted to store about PHP2,000 in cash, particularly for medical maintenance costs.
Catapang claimed that exorbitant fees on financial transfers and the cash ending up with prison guards were examples of system misuse.
