The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) destroyed nearly 3,000 cubicles in 13 buildings at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) for the improved safety and security of the prisoners.

According to BuCor Director Gregorio Catapang Jr., the dismantling of the cubicles aims to monitor the movement of the inmates, following the issue of a prisoner who escaped from Bilibid’s maximum security compound in July.

As such, the BuCor officials implemented stricter measures inside the Bilibid prison.

Catapang said that the inmates will not be able to perform illegal activities as they have removed all the walls, hoping that Closed-circuit television (CCTVs) will be installed so they can monitor the prisoners’ activities inside their cubicles.

The demolition was part of BuCor’s "Oplan Kaayusan" for fully visible monitoring.

Meanwhile, the search for contraband in the NBP that Catapang started in August will continue its operation to catch the persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) hiding said contraband.
